********************* 1. The Katie Couric Marketing Plan: Lessons To Enhance Your Business
As you receive this issue, Katie Couric has already started her reign
as the first solo female news anchor on the CBS Evening News. Despite
Ms. Couric's huge popularity, CBS executives still felt compelled to
get information and research on the public's perception of Ms. Couric
and how she would best make the "fit" as a trustworthy communicator of
the evening news. The elements used in marketing Katie Couric
from a "perky" to an "authoritative" prime-time newscaster is a
blueprint that all companies, in every business category, should
explore. They include:
- Don't take new markets lightlyyour
product may be successful in one market, but don't take it for granted
that it will be accepted in new, untested markets.
- Talk to your marketplaceimplement research from buyers and non-buyers on their perceptions about your product/service.
- Develop a differentiationin an over-crowded category, how will your product/service stand out or be packaged from the others?
- Be visiblemeet and greet your potential customers; make as many friends as possible and tell your story.

3. Bad News From Google: Google Says Don't Use Google
It's common to hear someone say, "I Googled that company," or "I
Googled him or her and got the information I was looking for." In fact,
it's so common that the term "Google" is now included in both the
Oxford English Dictionary and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Google is
defined as a verb, meaning "to use the Google search engine to obtain
information about a person or a company on the World Wide Web." (

Despite this huge acceptance, in a classic PR gaffe, Google recently
sent out letters to various media companies requesting that they
refrain from using the word "Google" as a verb.
 The reality is
that no one knows how Google is going to police this. Will they install
hidden microphones and cameras in your computers to listen in on
conversations? Or, will they send the Google police out to issue you a
ticket? Stay tuned as Google takes another step towards ruling the
world!
********************* 4. The 60 Second Close: Googling Your Business And Getting Nowhere?
Despite the size of your company or the size of your advertising
budget, Google gives every business an opportunity to have an Internet
presence. With the competition being extremely cutthroat to
get a top 10 listing for a key search phrase that's relevant to your
business category, Google offers alternative programs that can get you
exposureGoogle Maps being just one of them. If you need help getting exposure on Google, then call us. We can help you get there now faster than ever!
********************* 5. Chris' Soapbox: Why You Should Support Your Local Public Schools
This
week, the Wall Street Journal reported on the migration to private
schools. More and more people are giving up on public education. Yet,
in many areas of the country, it appears that public schools are
outperforming private schools in many academic and extracurricular
aspects.
Public schools, particularly high schools, can no
longer rely on tax based funding if they are going to excel. Community
leaders must get involved to provide additional funding sources for
well-conceived programs beyond those that can be funded within "the
budget".
A great public high school enhances the community,
provides a better sense of community, adds recreational activities for
it's citizens, and increases property values. Your support can make a
HUGE difference!
Best Wishes, Chris Lambrecht
